| The history of JOVACO Solutions begins with the introduction
of the personal computer in 1983. That year, IBM’s
PC XT - complete with 128 Kilobytes of RAM - was available
for $5,000 US, while the first Microsoft mouse went on
the market for $200 US. Determined to assist businesses
in working to their full potential, Jean-Claude Coutu,
a chartered accountant in a Montreal firm, opened his
own software company. He named it JOVACO after his two
children Jonatan and Valérie
Coutu.
In the beginning,
Coutu distributed an American accounting software under
his company name. He translated and adapted the software
for the small and medium business market in Quebec.
From the outset, JOVACO offered a unique management
model, providing what no other company did at the time:
full-range services for management systems.
By the late 1980s, despite the recession that hit the
retail sector, JOVACO was driven by entrepreneurial
spirit and innovative vision and made a breakthrough
into a new market: Project Management.
JOVACO leaped into this new territory with an innovative
application that integrated accounting and project data
management. Project Suite, the first integrated project
management system, was born. The integration was common
sense for Coutu, but this all-in-one concept revolutionized
the world of management. Although this ERP concept is
very popular now, it was virtually unknown during this
period. Shortly after the launch of Project Suite, several
major consulting engineering firms in Quebec, such as
BPR, CIMA and Génivar, acquired this solution.
Over forty other firms would follow in their footsteps.
As the application features and functionalities evolved,
Project Suite’s exploitation could now be extended
to other professional sectors, such as marketing-communications
firms, IT consulting firms, architecture consulting
firms to not-for-profit and custom manufacturing firms.
The 1990s brought the arrival of Windows and object-oriented
language as Microsoft began making waves in the world
of computers. Always in touch with the latest technologies,
JOVACO invested heavily in the training of its staff
to provide them the necessary tools to persevere on
the road to innovation. In order to offer the latest
technology to current and prospective clients, JOVACO
also adapted its products and developed applications
in the object-oriented language for Windows and the
Internet.
Parallel to the development of Project Suite, JOVACO
would continue to make waves as a consulting firm and
implemented over 400 management systems in organizations
in various business sectors: production houses, distribution
firms, retail commerce to religious communities.
In a strategic move in 1996, JOVACO expanded its products’
accessibility to the worldwide market by becoming a
partner with Microsoft and Great Plains Software (now
Microsoft Business Solutions). From a local market,
JOVACO has now opened its door to the global market.
During this Internet revolution, free exchange and international
competition period, JOVACO has adapted its products
and continues to develop new products. Our products
are multi-lingual, multi-currency and multi-company;
it allows for e-commerce and online data consultation.
JOVACO will continue to exceed the IT standards with
its innovation.
