Financial Aid and Tax Credits Available to Quebec SMBs for the Optimization of their Business with ERP and CRM Management Systems

If you are currently considering investing in a new integrated management system for your organization, now is the right time to take the leap: Quebec SMBs in a variety of industries can now benefit from financial aid and tax credits from the provincial government. The goal of these initiatives is to help Quebec organizations improve their efficiency and productivity through the implementation of management systems, better support the growth of their business, and remain competitive on global markets.

An integrated management solution (ERP), a customer relation management solution (CRM), or a management solution specific to your industry can increase the productivity of your resources and support the growth of your organization. The two existing programs are the Appui à la productivité des PME (Support to SMB Productivity), which aims to increase the productivity of Quebec SMBs in the manufacturing and tertiary sectors, and the Tax Credit for the Integration of IT in SMBs, applicable to the implementation of integrated management systems within manufacturing businesses.

PME en action – Appui à la productivité des PME (SMBs in Action – Support to SMB Productivity)

This program is an initiative on the part of the Quebec Ministère de l’Économie, de la Science et de l’Innovation (MESI – Ministry of Economy, Science and Innovation), whose goal is to increase the productivity and competitivity of Quebec companies while also supporting their growth.

Eligible organizations

Eligible businesses are those that have an establishment in Quebec and that are part of one of the following sectors:

  • Manufacturing sector
  • • Tertiary sector, which includes the following industries, among others:
    – Information technologies
    – Communications
    – Environmental services
    – Private research services
    – Industrial laboratories

NPOs and companies that are predominantly State owned are not eligible.

Eligible projects and expenses

This program applies to projects involving the implementation of business practices to increase productivity within the organization. This includes the implementation of an ERP or CRM system. Fees for services provided by an external consulting firm are also eligible, as are fees related to the purchase of information necessary to the realization of the project, such as statistics or market research.

The financial aid granted by the MESI can cover up to 40% of the eligible expenses for the project, up to $50,000 per project. This can represent a considerable proportion of the implementation costs for your project, depending on its size. Tax Credit for the Integration of IT in SMBs

This second program offers a refundable tax credit that applies to the implementation of an ERP, CRM or supply chain management (SCM) system for SMBs in the manufacturing industry. Its aim is to favor the integration of IT in the business processes of Quebec SMBs in order to increase their productivity.

Eligible organizations

Eligible organizations are those that have an establishment in the province of Quebec and whose activities are mainly performed in one of the following sectors:

  • Primary sector
  • Manufacturing sector
  • Wholesale trade
  • Retail trade

These companies are thus involved in manufacturing, processing or trade activities, located in Quebec and will be mainly using the management system benefitting from the tax credit within Quebec.

Eligible projects and expenses

The tax credit applies to the sale or rental of a management system (ERP, CRM and/or SCM) or to the usage rights of said system. The hardware and services related to the implementation of the system are also eligible for the tax credit. The eligible expense corresponds to 80% of the expenses related to the eligible contract, up to $250,000.
