What to Consider Before Migrating Your CRM

June 5, 2019

The migration of any system requires some thought and planning. As mentioned in our previous article How to Migrate Your On-Premises CRM to the Cloud, the migration of your customer relationship management solution offers a good opportunity to redefine the needs of your organization and optimize its processes.

For this reason, JOVACO starts any migration project with 3 questions to facilitate the process for our customers and to align our respective visions before getting started.

  1. Will your CRM be migrated to on-premises servers or to the cloud? Of course, this question is crucial as the nature of your migration project will change considerably depending on the answer. We have previously shared 5 Reasons to Migrate Your On-Premises CRM to the Cloud, but your migration partner will be able to guide your choice based on your specific needs. The project specifications and criteria will of course differ greatly depending on your choice of deployment.
  2. How big is your current database? The quantity of data to migrate will directly affect the length of the migration, whether on premises or cloud-based, which can cause some downtime. Moreover, diskspace is limited in the case of a cloud migration: options are available to obtain more space if necessary, but another option is to not migrate all data. As such, it may be a good time to clean up your CRM! Again, your partner will let you know what your options are and make recommendations based on your specific circumstances.
  3. Which third-party solutions and products are currently integrated to your CRM? New functionalities and improvements are brought to each new version of the solution, which means that some third-party products may become obsolete. By redefining your processes and identifying the needs that are not met natively by the solution, we can determine which products are still relevant. Moreover, a larger number of solutions and integrations of course means that the migration process will be more complex.

By having the answers to the above questions, JOVACO will be able to estimate the effort required for the migration of your system. We are also able to plan the project, recommend the best method to complete it, and if necessary, to estimate any potential downtime.

As experts of Microsoft Dynamics solutions, JOVACO Solutions has completed numerous migrations, both on premises and to the cloud. We are available to answer your questions and help you throughout the digital transformation of your business.
