Temporary solution to display webpages in Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Outlook
Following the release of the October 2017 Microsoft Outlook security update, users have reported that the Web client for Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Outlook now fails to render webpages in Outlook.
As such, the following message is displayed instead: “Waiting for a page to be retrieved from a CRM server…” (in French: “Récupération de page depuis un serveur Microsoft Dynamics 365 en attente …”), even though the corresponding page never loads.
By addressing certain vulnerabilities found within the application, the update prevents webpages from being displayed in Outlook. Since it corrects significant vulnerabilities previously found in the application, the update must not be uninstalled.
This situation is known by Microsoft, who is currently working on a permanent solution. In the meantime, Microsoft suggests installing a registry key to local client machines running the Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Outlook application. This can be done by modifying the registry directly or via Group Policy in your organization.
The registry key depends on the version of Microsoft Outlook currently installed:
Microsoft Outlook 2016:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Security] “EnableRoamingFolderHomepages”=dword:00000002
Microsoft Outlook 2013:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Outlook\Security] “EnableRoamingFolderHomepages”=dword:00000002
Microsoft Outlook 2010:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security] “EnableRoamingFolderHomepages”=dword:00000002
NB: The DWORD value for this key is set to 2 so that it can be defined in a future security update.
The situation should be resolved permanently with a future security update. For more information, visit the Microsoft Support page regarding the security update for Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Outlook.
